Role of nanostructured Zn-ferrite for Spin Insulatronics
Abstract :
Creating exotic oxide-based spintronic devices demands exploration of new spinel having a complex crystal structure with many degrees of freedom that can be engineered to produce multifunctional properties at nano-scale. The controlled growth of nanometric spinel oxide films allows the stabilization of novel magnetic phases with properties dramatically different from bulk ones [1]. A very interesting feature of Zn-ferrite (ZnFe2O4) is that it shows paramagnetic behavior in bulk at room temperature whereas strong magnetic ordering has been observed at nanoscale, providing a platform for various spintronic research. This would allow us to build monolithic spin-filter junctions, exchange bias structure and magnetic tunnelling junctions based on a single material homojunctions and recently developed novel spin pumping devices [2] using its tunable magnetic and electric transport properties while preserving crystal symmetry.
