- NCO team develops NHC-Stabilized Nanoparticles for Aqueous 5-HMF Conversion

Biomass conversion is attracting growing attention worldwide as a sustainable alternative to fossil-based resources such as petroleum and natural gas. Responding to this challenge, the NCO team has designed N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-stabilized, water-soluble nanoparticles of various metals and alloys to drive the selective conversion of 5-HMF, one of the most promising biomass-derived molecules. Derived from hemicellulose, 5-HMF is a versatile platform compound with high potential for transformation into valuable chemicals. This achievement has been showcased on the Inside Front Cover of the Green Chemistry journal.
