LNCMI-MegaGauss
LNCMI-Optics & Spectroscopy

Magnetic fields for research above 100 T can only be generated in (semi)destructive installations, of which only 3 exist in the world. The only installation of this type in Europe is located at the LNCMI in Toulouse. It is called the MegaGauss installation and it is capable of generating fields up to 300 T in 5 µs pulses. Physical experiments in such an installation are quite challenging and only a limited number of experimental techniques are currently in existence. The TeraMega project aims to develop a unique setup for terahertz magneto-spectroscopy in the MegaGauss installation, using a custom-built pulsed optically pumped molecular gas laser, capable of covering the range of 0,25 – 20 THz, with many discrete laser lines, together with the necessary detectors and cryogenic equipment. The performance of the setup will be illustrated by demonstrator experiments and it will be integrated into the instrumentation suite for external users of the LNCMI.
